The screen has improved on the new PSP 3000, but one of the drawbacks
of this new screen is an increased load on the battery. The brighter
screen is going to mean 20 minutes less battery time.
The standard Lithium Ion PSP battery at 1800mAh, is good for about
3 to 4 hours of gameplay, so the new screen will lose you from 8
to 10% of its battery life. This won't be an issue for people that
play their PSP in and around the house, but for people on long flights
it could mean another 20 minutes of watching inflight movies and
playing crappy in flight games.
Sony
used to sell an extended battery for the PSP 2000 which was rated
at 2200mAh. The extended battery gave you up to 8 hours of gameplay
and the only downside was a slight bulge at the back, as the new
battery was physically larger than the standard battery. A new extended
life battery is rumoured to be on its way. With the new PSP 3000
it could be needed now more than ever.
